Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive on the shores of Lake Victoria

  • Settle into Entebbe, Uganda’s former colonial administrative center

  • Visit the National Botanical Gardens, first established in 1898

Days 2 to 4: Watch for elephants and hippos in Murchison Falls National Park

  • See the Victoria Nile plunge 140 feet through a narrow gorge

  • Cruise the calmer river below the falls past elephants, hippos and Nile crocodiles

  • Search for rare shoebills on a launch trip through the Lake Albert delta

Days 5 to 6: Track chimpanzees in East Africa’s richest primate forest

  • Search for chimpanzees and red colobus monkeys among Kibale’s 13 primate species

  • Walk through rainforest and along the crater lakes between Fort Portal and Kibale

  • Watch for forest elephants and a wide variety of rainforest birds

Day 7: Cruise the wildlife-rich Kazinga Channel

  • Pass large concentrations of hippos and crocodiles by boat

  • Search the surrounding savanna and wetlands for lions, buffalo and elephants

  • Watch for some of the more than 600 bird species recorded in the park

Day 8: Search for tree-climbing lions before entering gorilla country

  • Set out on an early-morning wildlife drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park

  • Continue into Bwindi, home to roughly half the world’s mountain gorillas

  • Look for Albertine Rift endemic birds in one of Uganda’s most important forests

Days 9 to 10: Trek into the rainforest to find mountain gorillas

  • Follow expert trackers through dense forest to locate habituated gorilla families

  • Watch silverbacks, mothers and young gorillas at close range

Day 11: Return to Entebbe after your gorilla safari

  • Fly from the Bwindi region to Entebbe for homeward flights
